1

Warlord

Your hero never leaves the field. Each of the six warlords bends the rules once per battle, and if they fall, the battle is lost.

9

Beasts

A warband is exactly nine beasts. No sixty-card decks, no luck of the draw: every card matters and you will know them all by name.

10

Citadels

Ten boss fortresses, each with a twisted rule of its own. Win and their lord's beast can join you.

6Rimeback Drake

Frost

Rimeback Drake

Freezes the strongest enemy beast for one turn when it enters the field.

How a battle plays

Slow to learn the board, quick to play a round

  1. Muster. Draw three of your nine beasts and gain crowns, the currency you spend to play them.
  2. Command. Place beasts on two rows. The front row guards, the back row strikes from cover.
  3. Clash. Beasts attack in order of speed. Abilities chain, and a single well-timed play can turn a lost round.
  4. Hold. Survive the round and your warlord gains a banner. Three banners wins the battle.

A typical battle lasts 8 to 12 minutes

The campaign

Ten citadels stand between you and the crown

Each fortress is a boss with a rule that breaks the usual game. Three of them are shown below.

Emberhold

Citadel III

Emberhold

A fortress of black glass where every round the floor itself burns. Bring stone and frost, or bring a lot of healing.

Pale Spire

Citadel VI

Pale Spire

Its lord freezes your hand: one random card cannot be played each turn. Short games favour the bold.

Sunken Keep

Citadel VIII

Sunken Keep

Fog hides the enemy's beasts until they strike. Scouts and Sky beasts are worth their weight in gold here.

Questions

Asked at the gate

What kind of game is Olden Era?

A turn-based card battler in the old style: no real-time clicking, no endless deck building. You lead one warlord and exactly nine beasts, and you learn them inside out.

What are the ten citadels?

The single-player campaign. Each citadel is a boss fight with its own rule that bends the game, from burning floors to frozen hands. Beat all ten to earn the right to enter the Crown Tourney's top bracket.

How does the Crown Tourney work?

Every week, players face each other in a Swiss-style bracket with the warbands they built in the campaign. The top eight meet on Saturday for the crown. Results reset each season, so new players can climb quickly.

Is it pay-to-win?

No. Every warlord and beast is earned by playing. There are no loot boxes and no paid cards. Cosmetic card frames may come later, and they will never change how a card plays.

Which platforms?

Windows PC first, during the closed beta. We are testing a Steam Deck control layout and will share more on other platforms when we have something solid to show.

How do I get into the beta?

Leave your email in the beta form. We invite players in waves and send one email per wave. No spam, and you can leave the list at any time.
